TY - JOUR AU - Pennacchio, Filippo PY - 2014/10/31 TI - Autorialità reloaded. The essay focuses on an aspect shared by many nov- els published in the last twenty years. That is, the authoritativeness of the narrative voices and thus of the narrators hidden behind them. If the so-called postmodernist novel displayed a series of disappear- ing and self-contradictory narrators, the contempo- rary novel often displays authoritative and “audible” narrators. Omniscients, essaystics in tone, prone to comment on the events and the characters in the sto- ryworld, these narrators could well be placed at the centre of an authorial narrative situation , to adopt a term coined by Franz Karl Stanzel. After a brief methodological introduction, the essay examines three texts by globally known au- thors: Michel Houellebecq, Jonathan Franzen and Roberto Bolaño. Through the study of their novels it is possible not only to highlight many important aspects of this narrative morphology, but also to un- derstand the reasons of its emergence in recent years. Moreover, the essay attempts to explain why the ap- pearance of this kind of narrator does not imply the restoration of a classical, XIX th century one; on the contrary, this “old” narrator is often criticized and put under discussion.  UR - http://www.ticontre.org/ojs/index.php/t3/article/view/32
